Thailand's humidity is the one thing nobody at home wishes for more of. An atmospheric water generator turns it into the one thing every household buys week after week: drinking water. The machine stands in the kitchen like a dispenser, plugs into a socket, and produces cold or hot mineral water from the air in the room, with no water line, no delivery and no bottles.
Minairal has installed more than 700 of these systems in Thailand, mostly for hotels, restaurants and offices, and the same three Air models are sold to households on our online shop. This article explains how an atmospheric water generator works at home, which model fits which household, what each one costs, and what the upkeep involves, so you can decide whether it suits your house or villa.
In short, on our online shop an atmospheric water generator for a Thai home costs ฿49,000 (Air Top, 13 L a day on average, hot and cold), ฿59,000 (Air Stand, 16 L a day) or ฿64,000 (Air Stand Pro, 22 L a day on average, up to 30 L, cold only). It needs a socket, not a water line.
How does an atmospheric water generator make drinking water?
The machine draws in room air, cools it below its dew point so that water vapour condenses, then collects that water and treats it. Condensed water is very pure but has no minerals, so the treatment matters as much as the condensation: the water is filtered, sterilised and remineralised with calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, giving a pH above 8.5 and a TDS of 40 to 80 ppm. The result is mineral drinking water, served cold or hot from a tank inside the machine. Our guide on how atmospheric water generators work goes through each stage.
The systems operate at relative humidity between 30% and 80%, which covers an ordinary Thai living room all year round, air-conditioned or not. They need a power socket and air around them, nothing else.
Which Minairal Air model suits a home?
All three home models are on our online shop, in the water dispensers collection. They differ in daily output, tank size and whether they serve hot water.
| Model | Average daily output* | Tank | Hot and cold | Format | Price on our online shop |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air Top | 13 L a day on average | 7 L | Hot and cold | Countertop | ฿49,000 |
| Air Stand | 16 L a day on average | 11 L | Hot and cold | Floor-standing | ฿59,000 |
| Air Stand Pro | 22 L a day on average (up to 30 L) | 13.5 L | Cold only, seven filtration stages | Floor-standing | ฿64,000 |
*Average daily output, for relative humidity between 30% and 80% and an average temperature of 25°C.
Air Top: couples and small families
A countertop unit that produces 13 L a day on average and serves hot and cold water. At two litres per person a day, that covers a household of four with margin for tea, coffee and cooking. It takes the place of a kettle and a water dispenser on the counter.
Air Stand: families and larger kitchens
Floor-standing, 16 L a day on average, hot and cold, with an 11 L tank. The larger tank means the morning rush does not empty it, and the extra output suits a family of five or six, or a household that cooks a lot with drinking water.
Air Stand Pro: villas and households with guests
The highest output of the range, 22 L a day on average and up to 30 L, cold water only, with a 13.5 L tank and seven filtration stages. It suits a villa with guests, a large family, or a house where the machine also serves a pool terrace or a studio. If hot water matters to you, pair it with a kettle, or choose the Air Stand.
What does an atmospheric water generator cost to run?
Two things: electricity and filters. The electricity depends on your room conditions and how much water you draw, and the bill is the honest way to measure it in your own home. The filters follow a fixed schedule: the sediment pre-filter is replaced every 6 months on Air systems, and the other cartridges every 12 months. Minairal technicians carry out these replacements, with service centres on Koh Samui, in Phuket and Hua Hin, and coverage of Bangkok and Koh Phangan, Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 18:00. Households around Hua Hin are served from our Hua Hin service centre.
On the other side of the ledger is what the household stops buying. At two litres a day per person in half-litre bottles, one person uses 1,460 bottles a year; a family of four, 5,840. Every one of those was bottled, trucked or shipped to your town, chilled and collected as waste. Our article on air-to-water dispensers for the home looks at that side in more detail.
Is water from air safe to drink?
Yes, when the condensate is treated. Condensation itself produces water with very little in it; the filtration, sterilisation and remineralisation stages are what make it drinking water. Minairal water contains calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, has a pH above 8.5 and a TDS between 40 and 80 ppm. Our water quality page explains what is tested and how. During maintenance visits, TDS and pH are checked on your machine.
Where does it go in the house?
Anywhere with a socket and air moving around it. The kitchen is the usual place, because that is where water is drunk and used, but a villa may prefer the living room or a covered terrace. Avoid boxing the machine into a tight cupboard: it needs to draw air in and push air out. If you are furnishing a villa or managing several, our villas page describes how the same systems are installed and serviced across a property.
How do you buy one?
The three home models are sold with their prices on our online shop, which delivers across all of Thailand, and our technicians install them and come back for the filter changes. If you are unsure which model fits your household, contact us with the number of people and the room you have in mind, and we will tell you which one to choose. The full range, including the Pure systems that connect to an existing water line, is described on our Air systems page.
